Last Wednesday night I met up with the creative director at 180 [the Academy of Art student magazine] and some other team members to help build set for our photo shoot over the weekend. I’d never built any sort of “installation”, since my background is in Fashion Design and Cosmetology, but it was great to get my hands dirty and participate in something new that contributed to an INCREDIBLE editorial shoot.

Beautiful student made garments and these futuristic hinged-plexiglass accessories created by Mike Feeney [as seen on Lady Gaga] looked ahhhmazing in the kaleidoscope of mirrors that reflected a multi-perspective view of the rubber-knits, patent-leather garter belts, furs and paneled dresses that were selected for the shoot.

The next issue of 180 is due out in February of 2012…. So far it has been such a great experience to help out on set and get a feel for what it’s really like to work as an editorial stylist in the magazine industry. From organizing the “Rolling Rack” and steaming clothes to coffee runs and outfit changes, there’s nothing like the exhilaration you get from being on set with so many creative personalities. The next step for me is looking for a summer internship in NYC. I’m glad that I’ll have some great tear sheets from 180 magazine to put in my portfolio =)
