Andy Warhol & Edie Sedgwick

After watching Factory Girl for the first time [twice] in 24 hours I can’t stop myself from longing to know more about Edie Sedgwick. The relationship between her and Andy Warhol is something that I’d never really paid much attention to, never being a huge fan of Warhol’s artwork, it was something that never crossed my mind when looking for inspiration to bring into my work as a stylist. But that was before I was familiarized with Andy’s work in underground film, and now I can’t help feeling sickened and saddened, for her life, but completely enthralled by the work they created in the short one year relationship they shared from 1965-1966. In the photographs taken of Edie Sedgwick during that year, the look of sadness in her face in almost instantly recognizable, revealing a young woman who truly fell victim to herself. She was strikingly beautiful but completely unaware of that beauty, compensating for her psychological breakdowns and personal torment with a deadly descent into drug addiction. Although her story is tragic, her significance to American pop culture and style remains, which is why I’ve chosen to pay homage to her in my upcoming accessories editorial shoot. This week I will be documenting the work leading up to that photo shoot so stay tuned for pictures and videos of that journey.
